The initial, highly prejudice, reaction to shopping in Lithuania might be ’what is there to buy except amber?’ But you would be very wrong in assuming that there is a shortage of good concepts in Eastern Europe.
Some really good international concepts have opened stores in the Baltics but are still to enter the Nordic markets. Beside international Inditex’s Pull and Bear and Marks and Spencer there are also some good regional chains like Stenders (Latvia) and Maxima (Lithuania).
One thing though is that most shopping is located outside of the city centres, with the exception of Riga. Many retailers have chosen to relocate in retail schemes popping up on the outskirts of the cities leaving the centre to souvenir vendors.
