Pohjoistuuli and partners

Newsec advised Pohjoistuuli and partners on the sale of the Tyrinselkä operating wind farm portfolio in Finland to Aquila Capital.

The portfolio partly benefits from the Finnish Feed-in-Premium system and also has a portion of its output sold under a 10-year PPA with a local municipality utility.

Pohjoistuuli has experienced the whole project life cycle starting from permitting, setting up the construction process, securing power purchase agreement and financing and operating the wind farms before it decided to sell them after being approached by Aquila. It also continues to operate the wind farms for the new owner. Megatuuli Oy assisted at the beginning of the cycle with securing land plots and permitting.

Omid Ashrafi, Managing Partner at Newsec commented:

“The continued energy transition and increasing need for energy independence calls for more renewable energy and Newsec is proud to continue supporting the addition of green energy in the Finnish energy mix. We would like to thank the parties for the hard work and collaborative approach that made this transaction possible.”

Andrej Srsen, Pohjoistuuli co-founder:

“It was fascinating to see the wind farms to gradually pop up on the Finnish countryside during the last couple of years and help the local community with securing green electricity. We were approached during the wind farm operation phase by Aquila who convinced us that they can provide the wind farms with continued highly professional owner support. We are also happy that we have agreed with them to operate the wind farms for them.”
