Folksam is dedicated to contributing to the energy transition and striving for more sustainable properties. An important part of this commitment is the installation of solar cells to generate sustainable and green electricity. Since 2017, Folksam has been working on solar cell installations and has a solar cell policy that was developed in collaboration with Newsec. This is an ongoing process, where solar cells are being installed, others are about to be installed and additional projects are in the planning stage. In 2023, several different solar cell projects have been completed on various apartment blocks in Hägersten, Hammarby Sjöstad, Sköndal and on Lidingö. The construction time for a project is approximately eight weeks.

The peak power that can be achieved from these plants is a total of about 1 000 kW, resulting in an estimated annual electricity production of almost 1 000 000 kWh which is equivalent to the energy needs of about 80 modern villas. In total, the 2023 installations mean that almost 2 500 panels have been installed, covering a total of over 4 500 square metres.

The projects have a payback period of 12-16 years depending on the conditions and an estimated lifetime of 30 years.
